Elderberry
Southern California tribes have long used this plentiful herb for their diaphoretic, laxative and diuretic properties and to treat various illnesses such as stomachache, sinus congestion, constipation, diarrhea, sore throat and the common cold.
Licorice
A common use of this plant was to make a medicinal tea from the peeled dry roots to treat an upset stomach or diarrhea. The way we use this plant today has its roots in the way it was used by Native Americans. Wild Licorice is high in anti-inflammatory flavonoids, free radical scavenging antioxidants, balancing isoflavones and soothing saponins.
Peppermint
An anaesthetic, antispasmodic, antiseptic, aromatic, and has agents that counteract inflammation. Also relieves and removes gas from the digestive system.
Ginger Root
The plant was a popular carminative and used to relieve generally upset stomachs. It was also used to treat intestinal ailments, and relieve stomach aches and cramps, as well as indigestion.
